For whom the bell tolls

For whom does the bell toll? (notice the floor, too)
In this year where a bat (Dark Knight), a Newt (Gingrich) and a dragon (Year of) are all making headlines, I go back to an earlier wink I gave about MacBeth.

A month or so ago, we find that bells are going to be a huge part of not only the Olympics but also the Queen's Diamond Jubilee down the Thames river (again, remember the Venus Transit during the Queen's holiday!)

Reading further into MacBeth, seriously a subject I know little about except that it's Shakespeare and about regicide - I find that the cue to kill in the story is the ringing of a bell.

With bells being everywhere and as prominent as they are (and even if you doubt my earlier Viva la Vida comments, know that the song features the drummer playing a huge bell) and with the Opening Ceremony inspiration coming directly from Shakespeare - and even Shakespeare's own words being cast on the largest bell in England (being cast specifically for the Games) - don't you wonder what's afoot?
