In June 2012, there will be a Diamond Jubilee celebration for Queen Elizabeth II.
It's not the first time there was a Diamond Jubilee celebration. The other one was in 1896, when Queen Victoria had her 60th anniversary on the throne. The celebration was a giant flotilla down the Thames, pretty much this is where the 2012 celebration gets it's idea of a flotilla.
Queen Victoria too had a ship named after her, the PS Queen Victoria (although there were several ships to carry the name, "Victoria" in her honor, only one was dubbed the "Queen Victoria.")
That ship sank in 1853 and 80 people drowned. Part of the blame of the accident is due to a bell that didn't ring in a lighthouse.
